As vice-chair of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Climate and Biodiversity Working Group, Pamela Conrad spearheaded the effort to create, define, and publish the IFLA Climate Action Commitment, aiming to unify 75,000 landscape architects across 77 nations into a singular message.

The IFLA Climate Action Commitment was presented alongside the 1.5°C Communiqué to government and thought leaders from across the globe at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland. The Communiqué, led by Architecture 2030, was signed by the 60 largest architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms representing more than $300 billion in annual construction spending, along with two dozen organizations and over one million professionals worldwide.

The IFLA Climate Action Commitment calls for landscape architects and allied professions to strengthen their efforts through interdisciplinary collaboration. It also supports sovereign governments in accelerating their Nationally Determined Contributions. The commitment aligns actions across six key pillars: Advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Achieving Global Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2040, Enhancing the Capacity and Resilience of Livable Cities and Communities, Advocating for Climate Justice and Social Wellbeing, Learning from Cultural Knowledge Systems, and Galvanizing Climate Leadership.

The Commitment serves as a catalyst for climate action in the profession, leaving a lasting impact that continues to resonate today.
